The Woodsman’s Santoku
Sometimes it’s about flash. Sometimes it’s about class. Sometimes it’s about the essence of the recipient.

The Santoku Chop blade is my go-to wedding gift for good friends. The blade is incredibly versatile, and suits my friends who are absolute novices in the kitchen through those who work professionally in kitchens. But since the blade is the same, the handle requires a personal connection to be truly special.
The Woodsman’s Santoku was crafted specially for my best friend and his wife who wed in 2022. Both avid hikers and nature lovers, I was looking for something timeless and classic, that held a special connection to nature. That’s where the gold pinecone came in.

The pinecone represents the forests that populate the vast majority of the 1,200mi trail - that’s the easy part. Less obviously, the gold nature of the resin used in this handle is a nod to the yellow blazes that serve as the primary navigating symbol for the Ice Age Trail. The subdued nature of the complete colorway fits a couple that doesn’t need to be flashy to find their happy place in this world.
These two built a good portion of their relationship while hiking the Ice Age Trail in our home state of Wisconsin, and that served as the primary inspiration for this knife.
